The Hallway Lights

from Ithaca by Monster Furniture

/

lyrics

The hallway lights wiring is off
I feel for the switch on the wall in the dark
This house is a temple thought to have been destroyed
Centuries ago

These ice cube trays are impenetrable
I knock down a spiderweb giving me attitude
Complex trials of virtue will challenge me

And I will take the lives
Of sanctuary guardians
I will take the lives
Of saltwater crocodiles

I lose my words at the foot of the bed
And sand pours down through the cracks overhead
My breaths go fast as the ghosts become visible
They snicker when the floor drops out
And the earth opens up
The chorus of cynical voices is staggering
I try to imagine the scars on the knuckles of

The architects of hell
And the calluses on their fingertips
And I’m not doing well
Not like how I’m selling it
