"Hamilton Porter" is inspired by the 1993 movie The Sandlot and its liveliest character: a shit-talking, hot-dog devouring catcher who calls himself The Great Hambino.

When I started working on these songs in April 2016, the project was a lot more ambitious. The album was to be a chiptunes-y, musical sci-fi sequel to the film. Through vocoded narration, Hamilton himself would describe his lonely upbringing after the sudden death of best friend Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, his inextinguishable resentment toward the film's protagonist Scotty Smalls, and his eventual realization that he is a robot.

Ultimately, I scrapped the narrative in favor of instrumentals (mostly--you'll hear snippets of Ham's best put-downs, plus some admonishment from the great James Earl Jones), then got bored and abandoned the project entirely for almost a year. When I came back to it this morning, there were 4 almost-songs that seemed salvageable.

Anyway. Don't take it too seriously. That's the mistake I was making. It's chiptunes, for Christ's sake. Have fun. Play baseball with your friends.
